Oakland-born vocalist and songwriter PHER brings a commanding live presence that moves from intimate storytelling and heartfelt ballads to explosive improvisation and full-band fire. His music blends contemporary R&B, jazz, soul, funk, and gospel into something deeply personal, emotionally direct, and built to connect in the room.

Formerly known as Chris Turner, PHER has recorded and performed with artists including Jon Batiste, Esperanza Spalding, Snarky Puppy, Prince, Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Robert Glasper, Jill Scott, Common, Bilal, and the SFJAZZ Collective.

As The New York Times wrote: “Mr. Turner is the rare male jazz singer with no time for mannered nostalgia… In his own misty, grooving music, Mr. Turner exudes both composure and longing.”

His latest album, Songs by PHER, explores love, vulnerability, family, struggle, sensuality, and self-discovery, while his forthcoming PHER Sings the Blues turns toward the jazz tradition through his unmistakable voice.
