Pianist, composer, and bandleader Joe Block brings his quintet to Black Cat in celebration of There Is Always Hope, his debut album leading his own ensemble and his first record built entirely from original compositions. Released September 25 on Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Blue Engine Records, the album is a bold, optimistic statement shaped by seven years of writing, collaboration, and musical trust.

Block’s résumé is already stacked with the kind of credits that make him one of the most compelling young artists in modern jazz:

• Finalist for the prestigious APA National Piano Competition, awarded in jazz only once every five years

• 2024 ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award recipient
