Raised in Oakland and shaped by the vibrant church and jazz traditions of his community, Sheldon has become a multifaceted artist whose work bridges jazz, soul, gospel, and R&B. Beyond performance, Sheldon is deeply invested in cultivating the next generation of artists. He teaches workshops and mentors young musicians across the Bay Area, emphasizing storytelling, authenticity, and the power of music to bring people together. At Black Cat, Sheldon debuts his newest project, Sheldon Alexander’s R&B Party, a joyful, groove-driven ensemble featuring Jonny Kaminek on bass, John Palowitch on saxophone, and Kevin Person Jr. on keys. Together, they transform the stage into a celebration of community, love, and the ever-evolving sound of Black music.
